This is Formentera. On January 14th, we took advantage of the year round ferry service provided by AquaBus and jumped aboard to enjoy a day out on Ibiza’s little sister island, Formentera.
As mainland Europe cowered in the depths of winter, Wales covered in snow, Germany tormented by raging winds, we picnicked on the beach (and actually got a little sunburnt!)
Below, I’ve loaded some of my favourite images of the day. They have been severely compressed for upload but I hope the beauty is still visible. To stand before such moments, to breath them in, was truly incredible!
AquaBus – year round.

- The price is €19.50 rtn for adults and €9.50 for children.
Departing Ibiza port with Dalt Vila on the horizon.
Coast of Formentera.
Lighthouse basking in winter sun.
Story has it that Bob Dylan lived for a while in one of the island’s windmills.
Although Formentera is breathtakingly peaceful in the winter, it’s easily possible to escape everyone, by exploring some of the beautiful camino’s.
We walked through this quiet cove, to the beach the other side to enjoy our picnic.
Ah, this was our lunch view. My partner took her boots off and waded into the water. We didn’t want to leave so stayed a while… (Can you blame us? 😉 )
Fig trees, of which hundreds, perhaps thousands adorn the fields across the island.
The beginning of sunset, as we headed back to the port of Formentera to start the 45 minute sea cruise home. By the way, the AquaBus catamaran that we travelled on is blissfully kitted out for all weathers and we were completely comfortable (great air conditioning in the summer too)
Home! A wonderful day had! Car hire had cost us just €44, incl. fully comprehensive insurance. We had a ball and would recommend it to anyone!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!,
Cat xxXxx
